Diaper Care
How to Care for your FuzziBunz Cloth Diapers

Fuzzi Bunz cloth diapers are so easy to care for! Just follow the rules:
  1. Between washes, store in a dry diaper pail (not soaking in water)
  2. Do a quick cold rinse then hot wash and cold rinse again
  3. Use only a little detergent (type matters—more on that below)
  4. Dry with medium/low heat or line dry (they dry fast!)
  5. No bleach
  6. No fabric softener (eg. Bounce sheets)
Which detergent should I use?

Our favorite detergents include Allen’s Naturally, Charlie’s Soap, Mountain Green and Tide Original (powder). Avoid brands like Seventh Generation and most “Free and Clear” detergents, as these tend to cause leaking and smelling issues in cloth diapers. Another key is to use only about 2 tablespoons per load. Using more causes a soapy build-up on your diapers, stopping them from working properly.

Need to switch detergents?

Do your cloth diapers smell not so fresh, even after washing? Your detergent is probably the culprit!

The wrong detergent can cause build-up on your diapers, smells, even irritate sensitive baby skin. What is build-up? It’s a film of detergent on the fibres of the diaper, preventing the diaper from absorbing how it should.

First, make sure you strip your diapers to get the soap residue out. There are a number of methods out there for effective stripping, but we’ve found that running two hot washes with NO detergent and about ½ cup of vinegar works well. Another method we’ve heard of is placing all your CLEAN diapers on the top rack of your dishwasher and running a wash cycle with NO detergent added. (Make sure they are all on the top and won’t fall through to the bottom.) Half way through, check the cycle to see if there are any suds from soap left in the diapers. If you see evidence of soap, run a second cycle. Check that one as well, and if needed, wash again.

After successfully stripping your diapers, choose and use a cloth diaper friendly detergent and remember to use only a little. Occasionally (every month or so) stripping your diapers, especially if you have a top-loading washer, is also a good idea.

In order to ensure long-lasting quality and utility from your FuzziBunz diapers, it’s important that you wash and care for them as instructed by the manufacturer.

Caring for your FuzziBunz:

FuzziBunz diapers are single use diapers. Wash both the FuzziBunz™ and insert after each use.

Most babies will experience little to no diaper rash after using FuzziBunz™. Do not use any rash or diaper ointments or creams with the diapers.

When wet, separate insert and FuzziBunz and store in a dry diaper pail. Simply shake the insert out into the pail and then drop in the FuzziBunz™.

For babies who are exclusively breast-fed, the solids are water-soluble and will rinse off in the wash. For formula-fed or older babies, simply knock solids into toilet. Small solids stuck to the fleece will dissolve in the wash. We also recommend using biodegradable, disposable diaper liners or a mini-shower to make clean-up extra easy. When using a disposable diaper liner, simply toss it and the solids into the toilet, flush away the mess and place the diaper into the diaper pail.

Washing/Drying your FuzziBunz™:

First, run a cold rinse or soak cycle with no detergent.

Second, run a normal hot cycle with detergent. Do not use bleach.

Third, if your hot wash is not automatically followed by a cold rinse, run a cold rinse cycle. This step is only necessary with a particularly dirty load.

Tumble dry the diapers in dryer on low or hang to dry. Do not use fabric softener or pure soap*. Never dry on high heat.
